Professor Rockenbach received her diploma in mathematics from the University of Bonn in 1988. As assistant to the Nobel Laureate Prof. Dr. Reinhard Selten, she received her doctorate in 1993 and habilitated in economics at the University of Bonn in 1999, working on game theory and experimental economic research.
From 1999 to 2000 Professor Rockenbach was visiting professor at the University of Tilburg and from 2000 to 2011 she held the Chair of Microeconomics at the University of Erfurt. From 2006 to 2008 Professor Rockenbach was Dean of the Faculty of Political Science and from 2008 to 2011 Vice President for Research and Young Scientists at the University of Erfurt.
Since 2011, Professor Rockenbach has headed the Department of Political Science for Experimental Economics and Behavioural Research at the University of Cologne. From October 2012 to March 2015, she was Vice Dean for Research and Young Scientists at the WiSo Faculty. Since April 2015, Professor Rockenbach has been Vice-Rector of the University of Cologne.
One focus of Bettina Rockenbach’s frequently interdisciplinary research is the design of institutions to promote cooperation in social dilemma situations. Her research is published in leading economic journals as well as in prestigious interdisciplinary journals such as Science and Nature.
Professor Rockenbach is a member of the National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina and was a member of the Senate of the DFG (2014-2017). Further Information
